How does an inverter work?

An inverter is used to provide a continuous 220V AC or 110V AC supply (relying on the country’s line voltage) to the device connected as the load at the output socket. When the alternating current mains power supply is unavailable, the inverter provides constant AC voltage at its output socket.

We should think about the following scenarios.

When an alternating current (AC) power supply is available.

When the AC mains supply is available, the AC mains sensor detects it and the supply is routed to the Relay and battery charging section of the AC main sensor, which activates a relay and directs the AC mains supply to the output socket.

In this case, the load will be powered by the line voltage.

The line voltage is also fed into the battery charging section, where it is converted to a DC voltage (usually 12 V DC or 24 V DC), regulated, and used to charge the battery.

When the alternating current mains power supply is unavailable.

When the alternating current power supply is unavailable, an oscillator circuit inside the inverter generates a 50Hz MOS drive signal.

The driver section will amplify and send this MOS drive signal to the output section. The switching operation is performed by MOSFETs or transistors.

These MOSFETs or Transistors are connected to the inverter transformer’s primary winding. When the MOS drive signal from the driver circuit is received by these switching devices, they begin switching between ON and OFF states at a rate of 50 Hz.

The switching action of the MOSFETs or Transistors results in a 50 Hz current flowing through the primary of the inverter transformer.

The inverter contains several circuits that automatically detect and handle various situations that may arise while the inverter is running or in standby mode.

This automaton segment monitors requirements such as overload, overheating, low battery, overcharging, and so on.
