Making Your Home More Self-Sufficient

Becoming more self-sufficient entails giving the environment a break. By being self-sufficient, you decrease your dependence on the environment, by using the earth’s natural resources to create your own sustainability. Originally humankind lived for centuries by being self-sufficient, now we depend negatively on the earth’s resources, causing an imbalance and a negative impact on the earth.  Below you can find out how to start making your home more self-sufficient. What is a self-sufficient home? Creating a self-sufficient home doesn’t mean you need to live off the grid completely, but it means creating a home that supplies its own energy, lifestyle etc.     Benefits of a self-sufficient home Establishing a self-sufficient home means you reduce your carbon footprint and energy consumption that have a negative impact on the environment. You’re also living a much more financially independent and bill–free lifestyle as you’re making your own resources.    Below are some ways you can start establishing a self-sufficient home: Alternative energy Save a ton of energy consumption by using alternative energy methods. Switching to renewable energy like solar power may seem a little costly at first, but it’s extremely beneficial in the long run. Since you’re creating your own energy, it will save you a lot of money by not having to pay for electricity.  You can start by installing solar panels called Photovoltaic (PV) on the roof, which uses devices that generate electricity from saving up direct sunlight all day. But make sure it’s in an area that gets undisputed sunlight all year long.   Heating systems Alternative heating options can be done through solar energy as well. Solar heating is capable of heating your water and saving energy. Water heating systems are achieved with a solar collector, insulated piping and a hot water storage tank. A self-sufficient home is one that provides itself with its own heat, and so you can allow your home to create heat by doing it traditionally. Lighting Use LED light bulbs. Replacing your non LED bulbs with LED bulbs it another way to reduce your energy consumption and become more sufficient. LED bulb requires less energy, does not overheat and brighter than other bulbs.   Creating a self-sufficient home with renewable energy, not only makes you independent but it benefits the environment greatly. It may seem like a lot of work at first, but the rewards are more worthy. Establishing a green life will preserve the environment for future generations to come.   also read : Everything You Need to Know Before Investing in Solar Energy

Everything You Need to Know Before Investing in Solar Energy

Everything You Should Know Before Investing in Solar Energy is still helping millions of people today by lowering their electricity bills and saving money. It is exactly what every home requires during a power outage. When you use a generator to power your home, you incur numerous costs. When we calculate the amount you will spend per day on a generator, it is always greater than your salary. Switching to solar energy is necessary in order to save money and enjoy consistent and reliable lighting without having to worry about a monthly bill.   upgrade Making a well informed decision of whether or not is solar right for you requires a lot of understanding of how solar really works. But here is a step stone to start making that decision right.   HOW A SOLAR SYSTEM WORKS.   Averagely solar system is made up of some part: The inverters, Solar panels, electric meter, distribution panels, which are either installed on your roof or as part of ground mount. This all working together to turn sunlight into electricity.   BRIEF EXPLANATION OF WHAT EACH PART THOSE Solar Panels Solar panels produce electricity by converting sunlight energy into Direct current [DC] The inverter converts the direct current electricity into alternative current which is able to energize your appliances. The inverter. The Direct current electricity from the solar panels flows to the system’s inverters, which convert it to an alternating current (AC), which is the current that is used to energize your appliance. Distribution Panel Alternative current from the inverter goes to the Distribution panels which send electricity to be used in the building. The electric meter. The flow of electricity to and from is measured by the electric meter. 4 ADVANTAGES Reduce an Expense Solar energy will reduce your electric bill, giving you control over a fixed cost. Protect Against Rising Electric Rates You no longer need to be concerned about rising electric rates. With solar, your electric rate will remain the same for the life of the system.   Quickly Recover Installation Cost in Year One Businesses and individual owners can quickly recover a large portion of The installation cost within a year. Its Sustainable As long as the sun is shining, your solar system will produce clean energy. Plus, saving on your electric bill will free up your budget so that you can reinvest in other areas. it’s a Set-and-Forget Solution There are no moving parts to a solar system, so the maintenance and upkeep will be minimal. After installation is complete and the system is energized, you just sit back and enjoy the savings.   Thinking of going solar ? Find the best deal on solar for your Business, Home or Office

Interesting Facts About Solar Energy You Probably Didn’t Know.

Interesting Facts About Solar Energy You Probably Didn’t Know.    Investing in solar energy can pay for itself The overall amount you save in investing in solar power is actually where the value lies. So when you switch to a solar energy system, try not to take the initial price of installation at face value. After you’ve had your solar panels installed, you will no longer have to pay a heating or electric bill and, after time, the amount you save on the electricity bill.   A solar-powered home can reduce CO2 emissions by 100 tons within 30 years By installing a home solar power system, you reduce your carbon footprint significantly, due to the fact that solar power translates to clean energy production. This means t’s not emitting the same pollution other energy sources typically do. Solar panels can produce power without direct sunlight The sun is a source of energy for solar panels to absorb and convert into power, but it need not to be direct sunlight. Solar panels captures different parts of the sun’s light spectrum. So, if the sun’s not directly beaming on the panels, it doesn’t mean the hues reflected from the sky aren’t being captured and utilized by the solar panel cells to produce power. Installing solar can be a community effort Solar energy is expanding from just individual systems for each home to community solar systems. The concept of shared solar fits well in the ever-growing sharing economy that has risen in popularity over the past decade. Instead of homeowners installing their own solar panels, an agreement can be reached within an entire communities for a solar shared systems to power their homes. So, why not talk to your neighbors and see who else wants to go solar on your block?

Health Risks Associated with Generator Noise

Health Risks Associated with Generator Noise Use and electrical power are very important commodities for the development of any nation. With electrical energy the people are empowered to work from the domestic level, through the small-scale and medium-scale industries to employment in the large-scale manufacturing complexes.   Most cities connected to the national electrical power grid have been deprived of electricity for over a decade now due to current power production of about 3000MW of electricity. According to the Nigerian Energy Policy report from 2003, it is estimated that the population connected to the grid system is short of power supply over 60% of the time.   In addition, less than 40% of the population is even connected to the grid.2 On a fundamental level, there is simply not enough electricity generated to support the entire population. Alternative source of energy such as electric generators are on the increase among the citizenry   due to the high demand for power supply. Many people and companies now supplement the electricity provided by the national grid system with their own generators. In fact, as long as you can afford a generator you should have one. Commercial business owners are not left out, according to one approximation, well over 90% businesses utilize generators for day to day operations.   This in-turn have impact on our environment  and as well as to raise a prices of domestic goods, and companies which import generators have created extremely lucrative industry. Electric generators while in operation produce gaseous emissions and high sound levels. These pose serious health risk to not only users but to individuals in the surrounding communities. A recent study conducted in Ibadan revealed high generator noise level of between 91.2 and 100.5 dB(A).   This noise level is capable of inducing hearing impairment.   Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) can be caused by one time exposure to noise as well as repeated exposure to noise at various levels of loudness over an extended period.6 NIHL is hardly a matter of public health concern in many developing countries such as Nigeria.   There are few or poorly enforced noise – pollution control laws in many parts of the country. In the rapidly industrializing parts of the country, the occupational groups exposed to noise pollution are hardly aware of the health risks of the noise levels at their places of work. There are certainly no protective measures in use in these industries to reduce the impact of noise on the health of the workers. Another study on gaseous emissions revealed that carbon monoxide concentration from generators studied ranged between 10.7 and 39.0ppm which was above the National Guideline Limit of 9ppm. Health effects from generator use can range from auditory (hearing) to non-auditory. Noise and carbon monoxide pose serious health risk and due to the insidious nature of noise on hearing, many individuals may not discover they have hearing difficulty until it has become worse. In addition, due to the strive to achieve financial sustenance, many often neglect their health and work at relatively short distances from generators, and at long hours.5 A lack of knowledge is identified as one of the barriers to change.8 Knowledge about occupational hazards (such as noise from electric generator) is suggested to be a predictor of preventive behavior at work.9 Effective behavioral change is facilitated by greater knowledge, experience, and personal risk perception.10 Why you should dump generators and go solar which is health freely There are a number of good reasons for choosing to go solar but sometimes business owners don’t realize this and stick to the common means of energy. This happens because of the lack of information as many entrepreneurs think that solar energy is expensive or believes a number of other myths about solar power. Nowadays, especially during the past 2 years the costs for solar systems have greatly decreased and can be affordable for small businesses, even for startups. To help you make up your mind and understand if it is beneficial for your business to go solar, we have made a list of the advantages of solar power for your business  click here to open

HOW FARMERS CAN BENEFITS FROM SOLAR ENERGY

How farmers can benefits from Solar energy isn’t just for homes or office buildings. Farms, wineries, and breweries can greatly benefit from going solar! Solar power for farms can help decrease energy costs and increase productivity. And, of course, it can also benefit the environment by utilizing natural, renewable energy.  Regardless of if your farm is large or small, your property can greatly benefit from solar energy. Solar power also offers financial profits in the long term. Energy costs tend to rise over the years, and sometimes become unmanageable. However, with solar power you are essentially locking in your energy costs. On many large farms, Solar is actually much less expensive than fossil fuel. That is for a number of reasons. The installation of solar energy will cost you more – that’s a given. However, with incentives from the state and increasing demand, it usually pays off to use solar energy. We all know that solar energy cuts down that electric bill. But, many are unaware of just how cost efficient renewable energy can be. Electric companies will charge more during the daytime, or when it’s the hottest. With solar energy, you can avoid those grueling costs while maintaining your farm. Also, solar energy frees farmers from electricity spikes or times when electricity is all consumed at once.  Electric companies will bill farmers much more for ‘interrupting’ the power system. Global warming has been a hot topic on everyone’s trends for years. Utilizing renewable energy is one of the most productive methods of reducing a carbon footprint. Solar panels produce renewable energy. Not only that, but solar farms are able to disperse large amounts of clean energy. This is because of the excess power being distributed onto main grids.
